Join us for a Visit to Hadlow Road Station
We are pleased to announce our summer meeting for June 2022, which is a visit to the well-preserved Hadlow Road station in Willaston.
Opened in 1866, closed in 1962 and restored in 1977, the station Hadlow Road is one of those time-capsules which never fails to draw visitors as it forms part of the ‘Wirral Way’. Just to whet your appetites, here’s a nice clip about this station (and others) from the quirky ‘Wirral Channel’ on YouTube…
Strangely enough, Hadlow Road station doesn’t appear on a list of stations closed by the infamous Dr Beeching – but there’s sure to be more information about that subject on the day itself. That’s because our summer meeting includes a guided tour and and a history talk given by Dr Chris Hampshire (another Dr whom we assume wouldn’t have wanted this station close!)
The meeting will take place on Thursday 23rd June, 2022 when we meet at the station in Willaston (CH64 2UQ for the sat-nav) at 2:30pm.
The guided tour and talk will be followed by tea/coffee and biscuits, provided (FoC) by some of the The Friends of Hadlow Road Station catering team volunteers. There is no charge for this event as the Wirral Society have made a donation to The Friends of Hadlow Road Station group. We look forward to seeing you on the day.
